How long will I be cycling for?
This depends on the safari you are on and the pace of the
group. See Safaris page for further information on different safaris available and their lengths.
I haven’t ridden a bike for years. Will I be able
to complete a safari?
Many people who haven’t ridden a bike for years are
pleasantly surprised when they experience riding our comfortable
bikes. We provide quality mountain bikes that are well maintained
to ensure your ultimate comfort. Our safaris are suitable for
people of differing ages. We only ask that you have a reasonable
level of fitness, and no pre-existing health issues that you
think may impede your ability to ride. It is not necessary to do any special training
in preparation.
What can I expect to see and experience?
Depending on the time of year, you will see many different
interesting plants and wildflowers, many of them native to
Western Australia. If the group is quiet, you may see kangaroos, wallabies, emus, and other unique native animals. You will
also see many different native birds, and be serenaded by
their beautiful songs. The total experience of the bush is
in the sights, smells and sounds around you. You can expect
to return feeling invigorated from a day spent doing some healthy exercise in fresh, clean air, and also feeling a sense of peace
after spending a day immersed in our unique natural environment.
Depending on the safari you choose, you will also have the opportunity
to cool off in a river and/ or lake.
What kind of bikes do you provide?
Our bikes are all quality 24
speed front suspension bikes. We have a range of different
sizes available- just let us know your height or preference when booking
to best match one to you.
Can I bring my own bike?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own bike if you let us
know in advance. We recommend a front-suspension
bike rather than a road bike, and two water cages to carry
the water you will need for the ride. We only ask that it
has been serviced recently, and any repairs needed to it or
damage incurred to it or yourself in riding it are accepted
as your responsibility.
What happens in case of any emergencies?
Our background in outdoor pursuits and as health professionals
means that risk management is a high priority and the health
of our participants and caring for the environment is foremost
on our minds, ensuring you a safe and comfortable experience.
Our guides carry very well-equipped first aid kits and emergency
survival kits, and all hold current Senior First Aid certificates.
They carry a satellite phone in case of emergency, a GPS,
maps and an EPIRB. They also have a bike repair kit for any
repairs “on the track”. The lead bike and the
tail-end-Charlie carry two-way radios to ensure the safety
of the group from front to back. Daktari
has a comprehensive risk management plan to cover nearly all
eventualities.
Will I have to ride the whole distance?
No, if you are feeling tired or sore, you are welcome to hop aboard the bus and sit out a particular section.
